in 16 days, i will be leaving chicago for dakar, senegal, where i will be volunteering with an ngo called enfance et paix. the name means children and peace, and their motto is: "si la paix est or, que l'or soit pour les enfants."
if peace is golden, let the gold be for the children.
after babysitting for two awesome kids all summer, i wonder if maybe it's kids who are the gold. either way, i'm excited. i'll also be living with a senegalese family and trying not to get any of the terrifying mosquito-borne illnesses i keep finding on webmd.
until i leave, i don't think i'll be blogging too much, because it feels very weird. i'm not a compulsive sharer, at least not with people i don't know or can't see; but this blog is for the readers, not the writer. i'll probably keep my own personal journal.
